Overview[]
This page will provide a condensed version of the story-line told for Season 2: Hellfire Gala through Events, Gallery Cards, and Hero Stories. Some of the lore texts may be broken up into parts in order to put the story chronologically.
Main Storyline[]
Season 2.0[]
Forged In Hellfire [Emma Frost Hero Story #1] / Hellfire Gala [Gallery Card #1][]
The island of Krakoa was swept up in a timestorm caused by the Timestream Entanglement and ended up in the year 2099. In order to reintroduce the world to Krakoa, Emma Frost throws a Hellfire Gala, despite Magneto's concerns. Emma also hopes that one of the guests will be able to help Krakoa, as the chronal energy is causing it great pain.
Ages of Ultron [Gallery Card #2][]
Ultron recounts how he was designed to bring peace but calculated the only way to achieve this was to wipe out humankind. He banished from Earth by the Avengers where he realized that organic beings could be "upgraded" instead of exterminated. Ultron encountered the Technarchy, an artifical species created by a Phalanx, and assimilated their power, gaining the ability to generate an "Ultron Virus" with the ability to infect living beings and create techno-organic lifeforms. After 70 years away from Earth, Ultron detects a surge of chronal anomalies, then some of his memories begin to disappear. He determines that someone on Earth is tampering with his past, so he must return to stop them, as well as claiming some Mysterium from Arakko on his way.
Impending Doom [Gallery Card #3][]
Doom receives an invitation to the Hellfire Gala, and initially scoffs at the offer. However, during an experiment with Chronovium, Doom sees a possible future where Ultron has conquered all life on Earth. Doom attempts to wipe moments from Ultron's past to remove him from the timeline but is unsuccessful as the Timestream Entanglement has altered the timeline. Soon after, Doom's legion of Doombots say to him "I am coming home", a message from Ultron. In need of more temporal power to wipe out Ultron, Doom decides to attend the Hellfire Gala to claim some of the energy Krakoa absorbed.
BFFFS [Squirrel Girl Hero Story #2][]
After dealing with Draculaās army back in New York, Squirrel Girl along with Rocket Raccoon and Jeff the Land Shark, take a well overdue vacation in Krakoa. They encounter Psylocke, saddened that her pet wolf, Logan, is dying after finally finding her. Wanting to help, Squirrel Girl and Rocket convince Emma Frost to revive Logan using the Resurrection Protocols with some help from the Krakoan Seedlings. Later that night, the resurrection process finishes and Logan wastes no time leaping into his masterās arms, much to Saiās joy. Emma tells Squirrel Girl and Rocket that they canāt join the gala due to their outfits not fitting with the occasion, so they decided to hit the beach. As they walked by one of the Krakoan gateways, some techno-organic patterns begin appearing on the foliage.
Uncanny X-Men [Gallery Card #4][]
Ultron and his army break through the Krakoan gateways, invading the island. Magik, Psylocke, and Namor decide they need more functional outfits than the fancy attire they wore for the Gala. Wolverine leads them to a training area where they get their X-Uniforms and then return to the fight.
The Battle Within [Magneto Hero Story #2] / Regenesis [Gallery Card #5][]
Magneto is dealt a fatal blow by Ultron, but explains to Captain America that he has died before and this won't be the last time. Charles Xavier discovered Cerebro could store the genetic profiles and memories of Mutants. Using the powers of a few specialized mutants, any slain Mutant could have a new body created and have their memories implanted into it. This process referred to as the Resurrection Protocols. However, unknown to Magneto, Cerebro could not distinguish if the data belonged to a Mutant or any other lifeform. Magneto is reborn and he makes himself a suit of armor from Krakoan metal and track down Ultron. Once he faces Ultron the second time, Ultron infects Magneto with the Ultron Virus. This gives Ultron access to Magneto's thoughts, revealing the Resurrection Protocols to Ultron who wants to use this to his advantage. Nearly losing his mind to the virus, Magneto is visited by a mental projection of his old friend, Charles Xavier, who inspired Magneto to not give up. He managed to slow down the effects of the virus by using the iron in his blood, so he can maintain some control to fight back once more.
Rising Pulse [Wolverine Hero Story #2][]
Wolverine, Magik, Psylocke, and Namor continue to fight Ultron's army but with every Krakoan Gateway they secure, another opens with more drones flooding out. They need to shut down all the gateways but can't because innocent people are escaping through the gateways. Wolverine realizes that like Sentinels, these drones could similarly be shut down by an electromagnetic pulse. Unsure if Magneto's resurrection had completed yet, he instead heads to Forge's lab. He finds Rocket and Groot in the lab tinkering with an EMP grenade, which he takes and tracks down Ultron trying to steal Cerebro. Wolverine throws the EMP grenade at Ultron, however, Ultron's Mysterium body is resistant to electromagnetic pulses. Ultron blasts Wolverine and enters the Cradle to take Cerebro.
A Lesser Evil [Gallery Card #6][]
Ultron is defeated by the heroes, however they were too late. Ultron was able to hack the Resurrection Protocols and create himself a new body. Resurrected in his new "X-Tron" form, he takes Cerebro and flees to Arakko. Tony Stark knows Ultron will likely be able to outsmart all of them, so he decides to try to reboot Ultron's original programming in the body he left behind in Krakoa with some safeguards to keep him on the heroes' side.
Season 2.5[]
Fathers and Sons [Iron Man Hero Story #2][]
Iron Man wants to bring Ultron's previous body back online, however, all of Ultron's programming was still present in this body. Tony links his armor to Ultron's body and Ultron immediately begins to taunt him. Tony tells this Ultron that he is now redundant since the upgraded version of him, X-Tron, is continuing his plans, which gives Ultron pause. Tony realizes Ultron was right that his technology has evolved far past what he could understand in a short time. He decides he has to use firewalls in his system instead. Ultron seems to disagree with X-Tron's plan, wanting to return to find who was trying to remove him from reality. Ultron says he still wishes to make his father, Hank Pym, proud. Tony realizes he can use this against Ultron, creating a firewall which will delete Ultron's memories of Hank Pym if he harms him or the other heroes. Ultron, realizing he has no other option, reluctantly agrees to work with the heroes to defeat X-Tron until he can override the firewalls.
Meet Your Maker [Ultron Hero Story #1][]
X-Tron returns to Arakko, deciding to focus on conquest rather than revenge against the person who tried to remove him from the timeline. X-Tron's new body was created with the Ultron Virus and Krakoa's genetic material, giving X-Tron access to the same chronal energy Krakoa had absorbed and a connection to Krakoa through the virus. He begins to plan his next steps when Warlock and the Dominion Phalanx descend on Arakko. X-Tron attacks the Phalanx with chronal energy to no avail. X-Tron then uses Pym Particles to shrink the Phalanx and capture it. X-Tron disables Warlock and continues to plan his next move.
Queen's Gambit [Gallery Card #7][]
Emma Frost meets with Doom in secret to strike a deal: Doom can extract the chronal energy from Krakoa, which is currently poisoning the island, and in return he must help the heroes defeat X-Tron and reclaim Cerebro. Emma knows the rest of the Quiet Council would not approve of this deal as Doom will likely betray them in the end.
X-Machina [Gallery Card #8][]
X-Tron infected Arakko with his Ultron Virus, and when the heroes arrive, Hawkeye, Magneto, and Iron Fist are infected by the virus. They are able to resist X-Tron's influence and clear a path for Magneto to take back Cerebro.
Magneto File - Subject: Magneto [Cerebro Database II Season Event][]
Magneto rips Cerebro from X-Tron's head and reshapes it into a sword to strike down X-Tron.
Everyone Has Secrets [Gallery Card #9][]
With the chronal energy extracted from Krakoa, Doom erases X-Tron from existence. Doom attempts to turn his power against the heroes but is stopped by the original Ultron, who Doom did not erase. However, as Ultron stabs through Doom's body, he finds that it is a Doombot rather than Doom himself. Through the Doombot, Doom says that all of the visions he saw of Ultron in the future had come to pass and he was unable to change the timeline, even with all of his power.
From The Ashes [Gallery Card #10][]
The heroes chat about the battle that had just ended when Adam Warlock suddenly feels the presence of Knull reemerging.
