Malice is the dark manifestation of Susan Storm, brought to reality by Psycho-Man's Hate-Monger during an assault on New York City. In this state, Sue was compelled to attack her fellow Fantastic Four members, until Mister Fantastic finally employed mental abuse to make Sue's normal nature resurface. When Sue tried to get revenge, Psycho-Man fled back into the Microverse while the Hate-Monger was killed by the Scourge of the Underworld.
Unfortunately for Mrs. Richards, these series of events had long-term consequences on her mental state. It was at this point that she renamed herself Invisible Woman (from Invisible Girl). She learned to manipulate Force Objects. And as time goes on, Sue loses confidence in herself due to the knowledge that Malice was still present inside her.
