When the Maker revealed that he had taken a codex from a sample of Flash's blood and intended to exhume and vivisect Flash's body to retrieve more, the Venom symbiote within Eddie went mad and attacked him. The symbiote separated from his host in order to detain the Maker, stuffing him in a morgue locker and stealing Flash's codex. When they were ambushed by guards using sonic weapons, the symbiote ingested the codex and poured Flash's personality imprint into it, creating awareness and converting Eddie into Agent Venom. However, the codex soon burned out, and the symbiote reverted to its mindless condition.
