Krakoa is a sentient living island at the Pacific Ocean who serves as an paradise for mutantkind, succeeding Genosha.

Lore[]

Temporary Fusion of Krakoa and Arakko[]

Due to the Timestream Entanglement, at an unspecified point in time, a chronal Storm of unknown origin triggered a partial overlap between Krakoa and Arakko—the two sentient islands associated with mutantkind. This phenomenon appears to have been orchestrated to facilitate the reunion of the islands, coinciding with a rare moment in which one of the few mutants to serve on both the Quiet Council of Krakoa and the Great Ring of Arakko—Ororo Munroe—was walking along the coastal boundaries of Arakko on Mars.

The storm caused space-time collapses, merging the structures and ecosystems of both islands. Elements such as Arakko’s Red Fortress and the Tower of Broken Will overlapped with Krakoan landmarks like the Black Stone and the Hellfire Bay. Flora, fauna, and even the symbiotic defense systems of both islands fused and separated in continuous cycles, sustained by a storm that seemed to defy the linear nature of time.

Only a handful of mutants managed to remain conscious during the phenomenon, among them Ororo. Using her weather-based powers, she took control of the anomaly and redirected the temporal forces, separating Krakoa and Arakko before the fusion became irreversible. As a result, the islands returned to their individual states, though structural and temporal damage was observed on both.

Following the event, Storm was found in Krakoa despite having never crossed a portal. Arakko’s immediate fate was confirmed shortly afterward: the island had returned to its position on Mars. The origin of the cronal storm, those responsible for it, and its full consequences on the mutant timeline remain unknown.[1]

Krakoa Transported to the Year 2099[]

After a temporal storm tore Krakoa from its original timeline and cast it into the year 2099, the living island was left isolated and silent. Many of its inhabitants, including members of the Quiet Council, were scattered across time. Only a few remained—among them Storm, Magneto, and the White Queen, Emma Frost—and Krakoa, still alive and conscious, suffered from loneliness and the shock of the sudden shift.

Even displaced in time, the island was not forgotten. Storm, Magneto, and Emma Frost began to devise ways to keep Krakoa alive, relevant, and protected. Wolverine, by joining the human Resistance, drew unwanted attention to the island, resulting in sanctions and lawsuits from the Alchemax corporation, putting Krakoa at risk of sabotage and hostility.

However, Krakoa’s Flowers, which continued to produce miracle medicines, became the key to its survival and influence. The island’s natural bio-pharmacology began to be distributed globally—even in this new future—weakening its corporate enemies and restoring Krakoa’s role as a vital force on the planet.

In the end, despite surrounding tensions and conspiracies, Krakoa stood firm as a symbol and sanctuary of mutant hope. The island still lives, still feels, and patiently awaits the return of its children—and perhaps, with help from the future, it may one day heal from the pain caused by its journey through time.[2]

Hellfire Gala[]

Main Page: Hellfire Gala

Once a year, the X-Men welcome guests from around the world to their island nation of Krakoa for the Hellfire Gala, a high fashion event that celebrate mutantkind's culture and achievements. Emma Frost's has hosted this lavish event to everyone from mutants to non-mutants with their dazzling and high-fashioned outfits.

Joining Forces to Save Arakko[]

After the Hellfire Gala was crashed by Ultron's surprise attack, the mutants of Krakoa faced some of their toughest days yet. Now, Ultron has stolen their Cerebro, evolved into something even more formidable, X-Tron, and retreated to his new stronghold: Arakko. Once Krakoa's sister island, Arakko has lost all its vitality, transformed by Ultron into a cold, merciless mechanical world. But the fight isn't over. The heroes, regrouping after their setback, must now join forces with Krakoa to save Arakko.[3]
