Marvel Rivals features 3 core game modes, those being Domination, Convoy and Convergence, alongside 2 side game modes, those being Doom Match and Conquest.

Domination[]

In Domination, two teams fight each other to hold control of a single point in a space called the Mission Area. It is similar to King of the Hill from Team Fortress 2 and Control From Overwatch 2.

Gameplay[]

At the start of the round, the teams must capture a point on the center of a mirrored map. When players from both teams stand on it, it becomes contested, which means the current capture progress will halt until one team moves off the objective. If a team has captured the mission area, the opposite team can reclaim it. When they hold the control of the point, their score progresses by 1% on the progress bar each ~1.2 second until they reach 100%.

When a team contests an objective while the opposite team is close to winning the round, the game enters a special state called Overtime. While contested, the Overtime bar does not deplete until the contesting players are moved off the objective area. When a player recontests, the Overtime bar is NOT reset and will be held in the state it was stopped on.

Domination is played in a best-of-three setting, which means that the first team that scores 2 points out of 3 sets wins.

Maps[]

Currently, the maps for Domination are Yggsgard: Royal Palace, Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Birnin T'Challa and Hydra Charteris Base: Hell's Heaven.

Convoy[]

Convoy is a mode where one team needs to escort a moving vehicle to the end of the map while the opposite team needs to stop them. It is similar to Payload from Team Fortress 2 and Escort from Overwatch 2.

Gameplay[]

At the start, one team is released free to set up their defenses and run to the attackers' spawn room. After 30 seconds, the attackers are released and must capture a vehicle in order to escort it. The enemy team can re-capture the vehicle for it to roll backwards. If the vehicle is captured by the attackers, it'll begin to roll forwards by itself, speeding up while there are attacking players around it, capping out at 3 players. When no attackers are around it, the vehicle will stop. The map contains two checkpoints with each adding time to the attackers' advantage. The vehicle will not roll behind these checkpoints once they have been captured.

Maps[]

Currently, the maps for Convoy are Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path, Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands and Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown.

Convergence[]

Convergence is played mostly like Convoy, with the difference that the attacking team needs to capture a mission area first. It is similar to Hybrid from Overwatch 2.

The mission area is divided into three sections. Scoring past these sections assures the attacking team that the progress below them will not be lost when they leave the mission area. The amount of progress required to score these sections is 33%, 66% and 100%, respectively.

Maps[]

Currently, the maps for Convergence are Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya, Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda: Hall of Djalia, Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface, and Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park.

Doom Match[]

Doom Match is a new Arcade addition to Marvel Rivals, introduced with the start of Season 1: Eternal Night Falls. It is a standard 8-12 player FFA deathmatch where players must eliminate 16 opponents or score the most points before time runs out. The top 50% of players will win, and the top 1 player will be crowned MVP.

Doom Match is available in a separate playlist and cannot be played in standard Quick Match or Competitive. It can also be played while queued for other modes.

Instead of showing the current team at the end of the match, the top 6 players will be displayed instead. In this game mode, Doctor Strange's Pentagram of Farallah and Invisible Woman's Guardian Shield are disabled.

Maps[]

The current and only map for Doom Match is Empire of Eternal Night: Sanctum Sanctorum.

Conquest[]

Conquest (formerly Pocket Universe) is a standard team deathmatch mode in which players try to score as many eliminations as possible, while also trying not to die to deny their opponents additional points. Teams don't get points for kills, but instead enemies drop coins after death that give points to the opposing team. These coins become more valuable over time. A team can win by either scoring 50 points, or by scoring more points than the opposing team before time runs out.

Conquest is available in a separate playlist and can't be played in standard Quick Match or Competitive.

Conquest plays similar to Overwatch's Roadhog's Catch-A-Mari, except that players accumulate Chronovium throughout the match and they drop the exact amount on death.

Maps[]

The current and only map for Conquest is Tokyo 2099: Ninomaru.

Event Game Modes[]

During some events, new limited-time game modes are made available.

See Event Game Modes for more more information.
