It serves as Doctor Strange's residence and headquarters, as well as a supernatural defense for Earth, and is now guarded along with Wong. There are others who also live in the Sanctum such as Zelma Stanton and Bats the dog. It is also the greatest concentration of occult esoterica and mystical phenomena in existence.

- The Blue Dark Cloak first appeared in Doctor Strange (2015) #1.1. A slightly similar cloak but in black, also appeared and is used by a dark double of Strange in Doctor Strange (2018) #6.
